1. Purpose
This Code sets out the standards of behaviour expected from all Touch Paper members to ensure the Society remains a safe, democratic, respectful and evidence-led public-interest organisation.
2. Guiding Principles
Members shall act in accordance with:
- The Society’s Objects
- Co-operative values: democracy, equity, solidarity, openness, responsibility
- The public-interest purpose of the Society
- Respect for others, including volunteers, staff and the public
- Evidence-based reasoning and constructive engagement
3. Expected Conduct
Members shall:
- Participate respectfully in meetings and discussions
- Uphold democratic decisions, even if they personally disagreed
- Contribute to campaigns or activities in a non-adversarial, lawful manner
- Avoid spreading misinformation
- Be courteous in all communications
- Report concerns in good faith
- Follow Touch Paper’s Ethical Consumer Campaign Framework
4. Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviours may result in membership termination:
- Harassment, bullying or intimidation
- Discriminatory language or actions
- Personal attacks or harassment of journalists, media workers or individuals
- Engaging in adversarial or unlawful activism in the name of Touch Paper
- Using membership for personal or commercial benefit
- Acting in ways materially harmful to the Society’s reputation or mission
- Ignoring reasonable instructions from the Management Committee
5. Complaints Process
Concerns or complaints may be submitted to the Secretary in writing.
The Management Committee will investigate fairly and transparently.
6. Sanctions
Possible actions include:
- Verbal or written warning
- Temporary suspension
- Termination of membership (with right of appeal)
